Francesco Beda

Francesco Beda (1840–1900) was an Italian painter born in Trieste. He studied under Karl von Blaas at the Venice Academy, where he honed his skills in history painting and genre scenes. Throughout his career, Beda traveled extensively across Europe, working in countries such as Austria, Hungary, and Croatia. He received commissions from notable figures, including portraits of the Austrian Empress Elisabeth, the Prince of Rohan, and Bishop Strossmayer of Zagreb.

Beda specialized in genre paintings, particularly those depicting aristocratic subjects in anachronistic settings, often referred to as "costume genre" scenes. His works frequently showcased individuals in period attire, engaged in leisurely activities or artistic pursuits. He was also known for his Orientalist works, reflecting the 19th-century European fascination with Eastern cultures.

Associated with the Italian Rococo revival, Beda's art embodies the elegance and refinement characteristic of this movement.
