About

“Lake George” by Alfred Thompson Bricher (1837–1908) – Oil on Board, Signed & Dated 1867

A luminous and tranquil landscape painting by Alfred Thompson Bricher (American, 1837–1908), one of the leading figures of the Luminist movement and a celebrated painter of coastal and lake scenes in 19th-century America. Titled “Lake George,” this work is signed and dated “AT Bricher 67” in the lower left, indicating it was painted in 1867, during one of the most formative periods of the artist’s career.

This finely rendered oil on board captures a dramatic, rocky lakeside outcrop bathed in soft atmospheric light. Bricher’s expert use of detail and muted tonality imbues the scene with a serene yet majestic stillness that exemplifies his signature Luminist style.
