About
Kluth spent all of his adult life living and painting in Brooklyn, NY. He was a founding Member of the Brooklyn Society of Artists (member 1888-1920)
Ridgewood Council After growing up in Fishkill-on-the Hudson, he studied art in the U.S. and abroad, specializing in landscapes and marines. He exhibited at the National Academy of Design, the Philadelphia Academy of Fine Arts, and in major cities around the country. He was active in Philadephia, as well, but lived most of his adult life in Brooklyn, New York City.
Starting out with lithography (one of his early lithographs is a racehorse published by Currier & Ives in 1872), he used the money saved to study abroad, where he began painting landscapes, still-lives and interiors with figures. Andrew Carnegie was later so taken by his Norwegian fjord scenes, that he bought many of these paintings for public libraries and museums.
